17 Blog friends answer: What helps me walk with Jesus daily?

woman prayingWell, here we are on the last day of the first month of the year!  How are those resolutions coming?  Lost five pounds?  Organized the garage?  More importantly, what about the spiritual goals -  the stuff that really matters!  Have you been successful, or like most of us, are you struggling?

If you are struggling – know that you are NOT alone!  The struggle isn’t the problem – it’s the giving up that we must avoid!!

To aid you in a renewed vigor to pursue Jesus wholeheartedly, myself, along with sixteen other bloggy friends have gathered some tips and thoughts about what works for us.  So today, we are just here as one Sister-in-Christ speaking to another Sister-in-Christ, hoping to offer some encouragement and challenge to you!  Run!  Do not faint!  Keep on keeping on!

“let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” ~ Galatians 6:9 ~

So, without further ado!

Q: How do you keep your relationship with Christ fresh?  How do you stay faithful?  What spurs you on towards godliness?

A:

H. RaeAn Original Belle button

H. Rae from An Original Belle says:

“I walk with Jesus daily by snatching moments to speak with Him aloud or silently, keeping Him ever close in my heart and our relationship- yes, friendship- burning brightly by frequently raking the coals of love.  “Speak to Him thou, for He hears, and Spirit with Spirit can meet– Closer is He than breathing, and nearer than hands and feet.” –Tennyson”

Mary at TEHTEH

Mary from The Encouraging Home says:

“When life is overwhelming and you don’t think you can go another step, God will carry you…when things don’t make sense, He sees the whole picture and has a perfect plan. Focus on being thankful for your blessings, instead of your circumstances and trials…keep a journal so you can go to it to remind you of His love for you. ( Ann Voskamp and her blog, A Holy Experience is an inspiration and encouragement to me.)”

Katie from Brighton ParkBrighton Park

Katie from Brighton Park says:

“God is in the details. He is in the laundry room… He is in the kitchen…He is present in our cleaning and caring for our families. He is in every laugh and smile and baby sigh. He is ever present. Every day. Each scene of our lives. In every detail.”

Heather - Raising Mighty Arrows2Raising Mighty Arrows

Heather from Raising Mighty Arrows says:

“Learning to affirm your husband will cause your relationship to flourish like never before.  When you decide to support your husband in all his efforts and endeavors, you leave little room for the enemy to get his foot in the door of your relationship.”

Amy - Amy's Finer Things10944_210347102650_146227672650_3643935_6955978_n

Amy from Amy’s Finer Things says:

” The best way I’ve found to connect with Jesus is to “pray as I go”.  Simply to be in constant, continual conversation with him as I go about the responsibilities of my day.”

Rhoda from Southern HospitalitySouthern Hospitality

Rhoda from Southern Hospitality says:

“We all face trials and difficulties in life and what and who we put our HOPE in will determine the outcome. I wait for the Lord my soul waits, and in His Word I put my hope.  Psalms 130:5″

Renee - LLLLLL

Renee from Living, Laughing and Loving says:

Why is it that we desire God’s INTERVENTION more than His PRESENCE? How much better that we seek to really KNOW God than to just deliver our “prayer list of our perceived needs”?!

We can trust our Father to supply our needs!  {Matthew 6:33} “

Far Above Rubies

Jasmine from Far Above Rubies says:

“Our days  STILL belong to God. We can trust that He is good; and therefore, whatever He allows is for OUR good. This can be difficult to embrace when the situation at-hand seems to be anything but Divinely Inspired. But, trust, we may…for God has promised that everything that happens to us is for His glory and our Salvation.

Therefore, we can completely surrender our days to Him and THANK Him for whatever that day may hold…even when it doesn’t “look” like a good day.”

Beth - Flair for Home324794_203398883087988_157273511033859_406848_1411380001_o

Beth from Flair for Home says:

“I have to be creative!  I love to pray and meditate on one to two verses every day.  I ask the Lord to give me a verse specifically for a new day and I will often write that verse on a 3 x 5 index card and carry it with me all day long. I will read it over and over again as I am waiting to pick up my children from school or while sitting and watching them play in the tub at night.”

CyndiCyndi button

Cyndi from Walking in Grace and Beauty says:

“My favorite quote is from my Mom. When faced with death from gastric cancer she said, “I don’t always understand God, but I TRUST him.” Mom went to be with Jesus on Sept. 22, 2009. She’s my hero!”

christinchristin - joyful mothering

Christin from Joyful Mothering says:

“Distractions are a deadly relationship killer with God. If we will resist the distractions and meet with God, we make room for the Spirit to transform us.”

JacindaJacinda - growing home

Jacinda from Growing Home says:

“I love homemaking – to the extent that worshiping homemaking rather than my Home Maker is a real temptation for me. The only way to keep the one from taking over the other is by remembering that ‘Unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain who build it.’ (Psalm 128:1)” “

Lisa JoLisa jo - gypsy mama

Lisa-Jo from The Gypsy Mama says:

“I’ve done this for a long time now. It’s nothing profound, but every morning when I wake up I picture Jesus holding his hand out to me, ready to pull me into the day. I can see His hand clearly- big, strong, rough Carpenter’s hand. It’s how I start most days. With the comfort that He’s waiting there to lead me into them.”

MelanieMelanie - Only A Breath

Melanie from Only a Breath says:

“I have been so encouraged in my daily walk with Christ by getting into His Word! This year I am reading the Bible chronologically for the first time, and it has given me a new perspective for familiar words!  Also, my husband and I have started having evening devotions together (just simple, 10 minutes or so) and it has revolutionized our marriage!”

Amanda - My Hearts Desire - picAmanda - My Hearts Desire

Amanda from My Heart’s Desire says:

“The book, Jesus Calling, by Sarah Young, has remained my favorite daily devotional for several years now.  The daily passages are relevant and short, but packed full of Biblical truth and Scripture, frequently speaking straight to something that is already on my heart!”

Jenn - the Purposeful MomJenn - the Purposeful Mom - button

Jenn at The Purposeful Mom says:

“As a mom of young children, fitting in time for devotions can sometimes be a challenge. A simple way to get God’s Word into my mind and heart and grow in my walk with Jesus is by displaying Scripture verses in my home in a variety of ways, whether it be above the kitchen sink, on the bathroom mirror, on a wall hanging or above the changing table in the nursery!”

and lastly, ME!

Rhonda from Abide at Home says:

“For me, walking with Jesus is a discipline like any other!  Sometimes I just have to STOP trying to be productive on my own, and go be in my quiet place with Him.  It’s a matter of the will at times!  It does help for me to remember that without Him permeating my days through the overflow of my time in the Word and in prayer, I can’t do ANYTHING of value!”

Thank you for taking the time to share all this advice! Some wonderful thoughts–I enjoyed reading each of them!

  2. My husband is my source of encouragement! He gets up early every morning to spend time studying the Word and praying. He makes sure coffee is made and helps to keep me going. I find that just being able to talk to him in the mornings is huge! If, for some reason, I sleep through the alarm clock (like I did this morning!) and I don’t have much time, I just grab my devotional book, and read that and then go back when I have time to really get in the Word. Thanks for sharing, ladies! It’s so nice to get encouragement! :D

  12. Elizabeth says:

What great advice! I am happy to have found you all. I start my day with a few minutes of talking to God,asking his direction for the day and his protection of my family. It makes all the difference in the way my day goes and all through the day I thank him for all his blessings, my family, a blue sky, birds singing.

    • Rhonda says:

You are so right, Elizabeth! I’ve been trying to live with an awareness of God’s presence, and His blessings throughout the day also. It’s crazy – He is MORE real than anything else we encounter, but sometimes I forget that…..thanks for your comment!!
